UPC ecoRacing triumphs in the first two competitions of the year
For the first time since 2019, and after two hard seasons due to the pandemic, the competitions have returned to be played in person. Thus, the motivation to see the car compete on track and get good results was very high. UPC ecoRacing has transformed this motivation into successes in European competitions, and these magnificent results encourage the team to continue working towards the last competition of the season, the Formula Student Spain, where for the first time UPC ecoRacing will compete in the autonomous driving category.
From July 4 to 8, the Formula Student Netherlands took place at the legendary TT Assen Circuit, where this year's single-seater, the ecoRD, arrived prepared to show its full potential. This will prove to be a reliable and competitive car from the first moment, achieving two Top 5 in the Acceleration and Autocross tests, which demonstrate the acceleration of the vehicle in a 75 meters straight and the speed in a fast lap, respectively. In addition, UPC ecoRacing also managed to complete the Endurance test, the most demanding of the competition, where the reliability of the single-seater is tested during the more than 22 km of the circuit. It is also worth mentioning that the Hungarian team was the only one in the electric category to complete the technical inspections (scrutineering) of the battery pack at the first attempt, in less than 90 minutes, a fact that reaffirms the good work done throughout the year.
And almost without time to digest the good results of the Netherlands, Formula Student Switzerland started. In this one, all the attention was focused on the three aesthetic events: Design Event, Cost Event and Business Plan. In these the design process of the single-seater, the management of economic resources and the ability to create and present in front of the judges a business model where the single-seater is the main element.
The good dynamics of Formula Student Netherlands were also reflected in the Swiss competition, with podium finishes in all three events, including a first place in the Cost Event, a second in the Business Plan and a third in the Design Event, three trophies that have become a victory in the overall standings of Formula Student Switzerland.
Thus, the great results obtained in the first two competitions of the season are a reflection of the great work done throughout the year and encourage the team to continue working in the right direction in order to improve the good performances and results that the ecoRD has been able to demonstrate. In addition, the podiums in the static tests, reaffirm the good management of the whole team in terms of accounting, design and organization of the project.
The last competition of this season will take place at Circuit Barcelona-Catalunya at the Formula Student Spain from August 4 to 8 where the ecoRD will be adapted in autonomous mode to be able to participate in the category of autonomous vehicle for the first time in the history of UPC ecoRacing.
